Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy is defined as the science by which homeostasis (balance) is brought about between the nervous system and the musckuloskeletal system. In order to create homeostasis, it is necessary to analyze physiological principles which govern the perfomance of the nervous and musculoskeletal systems.

Neuromuscular therapy allows a reversal of the stress-tension-pain cycle. Pressure applied by a therapist specifically interupts impulses to the spinal cord, reducing the intensity of nervous activity within the tissue. This pressure also mechanically forces out toxic irritants which have accumulated at nerve receptor sites. The muscle then relaxes, circulation is increased, and the body returns to normal neuromuscular integrity and balance.

Neuromuscular therapy is a great therapy for athletes. Whether you are training for your next big event, or recovering from your last, healthy tissues always perform better. Keeping muscles at their proper length will allow you to be more flexible and less prone to injuries.
